Learning Academy

Inaugural Dissection Club Brings Anatomy to Life

This October, we hosted the inaugural Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy Dissection Club, a recurring monthly evening of hands-on learning, exploration, and anatomy.

Our first session focused on the upper extremity, from the shoulder to the fingertips, giving participants the opportunity to explore anatomy through hands-on cadaveric dissection in a professional bioskills laboratory. Participants worked through anatomical structures and relationships in a collaborative, small-group environment.

The Dissection Club was created for students, healthcare professionals, and anyone looking to deepen their understanding of anatomy. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural session and helped make the launch a success!

Save the Date! Our next Dissection Club will be Friday, November 13, 2026.

Interested in joining a future session? Contact Dr. Stephanie Petterson at spetterson@ofals.org for more information and upcoming dates.

Research Spotlight

Summer Interns Publish Research in Medical Sciences

We are proud to share that a research project completed by Orthopaedic Foundation summer interns Samuel Wang and Aaditya Jain has been published in Medical Sciences.

The article, “Low-Intensity Continuous Ultrasound vs. Traditional Ultrasound: A Systematic Review and Descriptive Analysis on Past and Future Gold Standards for Deep-Tissue Diathermy in Clinical Medicine”, examines the evidence surrounding low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS) and traditional therapeutic ultrasound, including differences in treatment parameters, tissue heating, and clinical applications.

The publication is an exciting example of the meaningful research opportunities available through the Orthopaedic Foundation’s internship program and our commitment to providing young researchers with hands-on experience in the scientific process from developing a research question and evaluating the literature to preparing a manuscript for peer-reviewed publication.

Congratulations to Sam and Aadi on this accomplishment! View the publication in Medical Sciences.

Fall Into Good Habits: 9 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy

As the weather cools and the days get shorter, fall is a great time to refresh your health habits. A few small changes can help you stay active, support your overall well-being, and prepare for the winter months.

Stay healthy this fall with these simple tips:

  1. Wash your hands. Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to help prevent the spread of germs.
  2. Stay up to date on vaccinations. Ask your healthcare provider about seasonal flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines.
  3. Prioritize sleep. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night to support your overall health.
  4. Enjoy seasonal produce. Add fall favorites like apples, squash, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens to your meals.
  5. Keep moving. Maintain your exercise routine with brisk walks, stretching, strength training, or indoor activities when temperatures drop.
  6. Stay hydrated. Remember to drink water throughout the day, even when cooler weather makes you feel less thirsty.
  7. Make time to unwind. Manage stress with activities you enjoy, whether that means taking a walk, reading, or spending time with loved ones.
  8. Keep up with preventive care. Schedule routine checkups and recommended screenings.
  9. Rest when you’re sick. Give your body time to recover and help protect those around you by staying home when possible.

A little prevention goes a long way. Small, consistent habits can help you enjoy a healthier, more active fall and head into winter feeling your best.
